Signs of a Damaged Furnace

Many people use a furnace for central heating. As with most technology, it can begin to sustain damage over time. Fortunately, there are some obvious signs to look out for to spot damage before it compounds. Here’s a quick overview:

Malfunctioning Thermostat:

This could just be a problem with the thermostat itself; if it’s not, then your furnace is malfunctioning and needs repairs.

Unusual Sounds:

Once you’ve had a furnace for a little while, you’ll know all of the regular sounds it makes; if you hear new, unusual sounds such as grinding or screeching, it could be a loose belt, ignition failure, or problems with other components.

Heating Costs Rise:

It’s always a good idea to contact a professional whenever your heating costs spike; it’s something you need to get to the bottom of. Oftentimes it will be because of a malfunctioning furnace.

Poor Indoor Air Quality:

An old or malfunctioning furnace can send dust and mold flying throughout your house. These can affect those with allergies, causing skin/eye irritation, coughing, wheezing, etc. If these symptoms suddenly appear with everyone in the household, your furnace might be to blame.
